My attempt at a website, and not my first. Travel and technology will probably feature together with flat projects! Plus random ramblings.

    User, Profile:Edit or Zoo Visitor?

There was a recent tweet that caught my attention while browsing EEHash that asked which module did I use for member management between User, Profile:Edit or Zoo Visitor.

    1. My choice is User and here is the reason why.
    2. When I first looked for a module in 2009 it was the only option and so I bought it. Needless to say my site has changed direction various times and it’s not launched.
    3. It’s a personal website = I don’t have cash available to test out EVERY member add-on.
    4. I have found no comparison of the options available that would give me a clear reason to change from User. However, said comparison might also tell me I’m fine where I am.

So those are my reasons. I would love to be able to try our Profile:Edit and Zoo Visitor but I can’t.

If there were a good comparison chart with the pro’s and con’s of each option I might be prepared to consider switching (I’ve still to launch my site) and I will be looking for a member module for another EE site I will be starting on shortly but for someone who doesn’t design websites for a living it’s not always easy to understand which add-ons are the best option.

Note - I design websites as a hobby for myself to run and/or friends. I don’t do it as a business. I use ExpressionEngine as I like it - it give’s me great flexibility, I don’t require lots of php/javascript knowledge of which I have none and there is a great user community with lots of good add-ons.

My App of the Year - NHL GameCentre Premium

Earlier this year I took ownership of an iPad2 and along with my iPhone I have been steadily buying up apps to make life easier and little more enjoyable.

At the weekend I read that there had been an update to the NHL app and it was now functioning properly on the iPad so I hopped over to the App Store and downloaded the free version before taking it for a spin.

I have to admit on the iPad I like the layout, plenty of space and very easy to navigate schedules, rosters, scores, standings, etc. I liked the timeline at the foot of the main section which highlighted all the key moments in a game - goals, shots, fights, etc.
